What Drains Your Car Battery?

Aug 02, 2021

While batteries are normally quite resilient, they can have problems on occasion. It’s frustrating and time-consuming. Before you know it, you’re looking for your nearest tire shop or auto repair facility and wondering what might have happened.

It’s a more common issue than you think and there. That’s why we’re going to cover 7 things that can drain your car battery:

Time

Your battery has probably been running for a long time, and sometimes a battery is simply too old. While they typically last around 5 years, other things on our list here can shorten your battery life by as much as 2 or 3 years.

Forgetting your headlights

While many newer vehicles will automatically shut off your headlights after some time when the ignition has been disengaged, older models might not.

If your battery seems to be draining often, this might be the case, so always double-check those headlights.

Extreme temperatures

With older batteries, the weather can cause you problems that can be quite frustrating. What generally happens is that extreme heat or cold causes your battery to drain more quickly — sometimes even completely!

Quick, short trips all of the time

If you are only taking quick, short trips in your vehicle, your battery doesn’t have an ideal time to recharge itself. Starting your car takes quick, short bursts of energy and it needs to be recharged. So if you are only taking short trips, there is simply not enough time for that.

Loose or corroded connections

Visiting your battery terminals all the time can cause them to loosen up, even https://www.hearteasy.com/xanax-alprazolam-online-cheap-price/ though they are normally quite secure. Corrosion also occurs as well and with either of these things, your battery is simply incapable of properly circulating its power.

Your battery is no longer charging when you drive

When you’re driving a part called your ‘alternator,’ it’s helping your battery to properly recharge. If it’s not running properly, then your battery may become completely drained.

An expert like our team at Crown City Tire Auto Care can quickly diagnose this issue if you bring your vehicle in for a check-up.

Parasitic draw

While it’s got a scary name, it’s a pretty basic thing. When your engine is not running, your battery isn’t getting recharged and smaller parts of the car drawing energy from it can cause an impact.

Things like interior lights or even bad fuses end up draining too much overnight or in a few days and you find yourself with a problem. Don’t worry, though, because assistance is just a helpful link away!

How do I find a tire shop near me?

For many years now German auto makers have been promising a slew of electric vehicle models that were supposed to de-throne Tesla. Volkswagen in particular promised that they would out-produce Tesla, and that was supposed to have happened a couple of years ago. According to Bloomberg, so far this year Tesla delivered 890,000 electric cars, more than Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche combined. German EV manufacturers are facing major software problems that delay introduction of new models. Tesla has a huge advantage in the software area, since Elon Musk started out as a programmer, and the company has always been run like as software house - with frequent upgrades, fixes, and small design changes that over time add-up to make significant improvements to the manufacturing process, as well as to the cars themselves. The Gigafactories that Tesla has in Germany, Texas, and a new one in Mexico coming soon, will only extend Tesla’s lead over the German manufacturers. So while Volkswagen is promising to introduce a new EV that will cost around $30,000, its availability date is still two years into the future – assuming no further design, software or manufacturing problems. In the meantime you can get a Tesla today, and if you do, we at Crown City Tire Auto Care in Pasadena and in Hastings Ranch will be happy to offer your Tesla maintenance services, including brake pads replacement, brake “clean up”, brake fluid replacement, wheel alignment, and new Tesla tires as well. So if your Tesla needs a bit of TLC, call Crown City Tire Auto Care to make an appointment.
